What to expect
Tangyou Community Protected Area provides the northeastern access to Phnom Tbaeng Natural Heritage Park in Preah Vihear. The route climbs more than 400 metres using roughly 1,800 community-built steps before continuing over a flatter but rocky and sometimes muddy plateau trail to Tangyou Waterfall, around 6 km from the community office.
Tangyou CPA was formally established in 2019 to protect 1,449 hectares, and community ecotourism development has added safer stairs, rest areas, toilets and a mountain campsite. Visits directly support local livelihoods and forest conservation. The hike is physically demanding and waterfall flow, trail conditions and camping availability vary by season; contact the community before travelling.
