What to expect
Travel from Siem Reap to a protected wetland supporting more than 200 bird species, including the threatened Eastern Sarus Crane, pelicans, storks, waterfowl and raptors. Bird guides and local rangers help locate key species around the reservoir, grasslands and dry forest, where Eld’s deer may also be encountered.
Birding is possible year-round, while February to May is the best period for Sarus Cranes. Published all-inclusive day-trip rates from Siem Reap begin at US$60 per person for groups of five or more. The site is about 100 km from Siem Reap; seasonal roads can require a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
