2 December 2026 marks the eleventh anniversary of tugging rituals and games being inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Cambodia joined the Republic of Korea, Viet Nam and the Philippines in the multinational nomination.
In Cambodia, Lbaeng Teanh Prot is played both for recreation and in ritual settings during Khmer New Year, Chhlong Chet ceremonies and Neak Ta worship. The game symbolically closes the old year and begins a new agricultural cycle. This listing records the verified heritage anniversary; no separate national public programme has been announced for 2026.
