First Anniversary of Cambodia’s UNESCO Memory Sites Inscription
Cambodia marked one year since three Khmer Rouge memory sites were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List with a ceremony at Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.

What to expect
On 11 July 2026, Cambodia celebrated the first anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage inscription of “Memory Sites of Cambodia: From Places of Crime to Centres of Reconciliation and Peace.” The inscription comprises the former M-13 Prison, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21), and Choeung Ek Genocidal Centre.
Minister of Culture and Fine Arts H.E. Dr. Phoeurng Sackona and UNESCO Phnom Penh Office Head Flavio Bonetti presided over the ceremony at Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. More than 100 ministry leaders, local authorities, UNESCO and KOICA representatives, victims’ relatives and students attended.
